unexplained

Introduction

There is no doubt in my mind that there are many of strange things about our planet which the average person knows nothing about. Creatures that have yet to be discovered, strange phenomenon that cannot be explained by any currently understood science or technology, and political decisions and strange world events which seem to have definite suspicious elements to them. Much of the information that makes me question the world as we know it I get by listening to Coast to Coast AM. I know that Coast to Coast bills itself as a purely entertainment show, and I know that some of the guests and most of the callers on the show are questionable, but many of the guests are so compelling that I often end up reading additional material on my own after listening to the shows, to better make up my own mind. And there is no doubt that most of the guests on the show completely and utterly believe what they are saying, and that most of them are not crazy or suffering from some sort of mental disorder. I know that there are people who are excellent actors, but I honestly believe that these "experts" are simply amplified version of many of us who want to know more about the world. They have simply taken their curiosities and passions and made extensive hobbies or careers out of them.

The ideas and thoughts in my head have begun to form a jumble which I need to somehow sort out to better help myself understand the things that I have been hearing and reading. I am fascinated by many of the stories that I have come across, and also a bit embarrassed to be so interested in these things. Although I am one of the first people to be skeptical about any claim that I can't see proof of first-hand, my friends tend to take the view that strange unexplained stories aren't even worth the time thinking about them.

This page will be structured into sections, each section dealing with a specific item that I wish to either comment on, or explore in more detail to either prove or disprove it. Although I am fascinated by many of the topics I hear, I will mostly explore the areas of extraterrestrial/UFO phenomenon here.

Why do we believe what we are told sometimes, but not others?

Something that has plagued me for a long time is our tendency as humans to believe certain things without question, while at the same time discrediting other ideas as bogus. Perhaps that most obvious example of this is with religion. When I was very young and attending Sunday school at my church, I started to have suspicions about the things that I was hearing. I went to a fairly liberal Christian church which was open to the idea of other religions, and taught us as children that in the world there are different people with different belief systems. It was clear to me that different religions, as much as many of them strive to teach humans a lot of the same lessons, have contradicting facts. It was at this point that I stopped believing in God and religion and started to question people that did, which unfortunately were people that in all other respects were intelligent and well educated.

I think the biggest reason that people believe what they are told sometimes and not other times lies in the very nature of being human: the need to be accepted. It is generally acceptable in North American society to believe in religion, especially Christianity. It is also generally considered rude or ill-mannered to condemn someone for believing in a particular religion. Yet it is considered "fringe" to believe in UFOs or other types of unexplained science, even though in some cases there is more reason to believe that UFOs are real than it is to believe that there was a person named Jesus who did all the things that the bible says he did.

So I'm not saying that I believe in either Jesus or UFOs, but I think that society has a fundamental problem with the way it parses and qualifies information, and the way it decides what is acceptable to believe, and what is unacceptable. This seems to be based on history much more than it is based on fact.

Things commonly believed yet debated

As we move forward in our world, we assume a lot of things about what happened before us. But having been born in 1978, I have no first-hand experience with the past or many of the important events that have shaped our understanding of the modern world. Virtually everything that we learn through books or news media or pictures that we cannot verify for ourselves is subject to error or even being completely wrong. Here are a few of the items which are often disputed:

Why we can't trust everyone

I have spent a great deal of time considering various reasons why people or government may disseminate information that is not true. Probably the best way to understand an unusual story is to look at the possible motive behind its existence. What does a person have to gain or lose by sharing either the truth, or fiction? I think that most people involved in an interesting story can be divided into one of several categories:

Questions about UFO stories and possible explanations

If crashed UFOs have been found, why can't I go and see one at a museum?

It seems strange to me in a world with hundreds of countries, and with supposedly many dozens of UFO crashes reported over the past hundred or so years, that it is not possible to see hard evidence of a UFO in a museum. In some countries such as the US, it is believed that UFO information is closely guarded by the US government. Most crash stories from the US and even nearby countries seem to involve the US military quickly removing all evidence of the UFO and creating a cover-up to divert public attention away from the crash.

But it seems unlikely that UFOs have only crashed in the US, and in fact there are reports of crashes all over the world. It would seem logical that not all government would take the same measures of secrecy as the US, and therefore it would seem only natural to assume that if a UFO crashed in certain countries, that the debris would be accessible to the public to view, or at least available for researchers to examine. Imagine a UFO landing in a third-world country, or in some place that had no military reason to hide the crash evidence. As far as I know there is no such public or even researcher-accessible debris from a UFO.

New Mexico seems like a hot-bed of UFO activity, and is also known as a place where a lot of military research is performed. Is this a coincidence?

There are many apparent UFO crash sites in New Mexico, USA. (most notably Roswell) This also seems to be a place where a lot of military development is done. Is there some sort of connection here, or is it just coincidence? There are several possible explanations:

If the regular media is susceptible to cover-ups, why are shows like Coast to Coast AM allowed to exist?

With so much talk on shows like Coast to Coast AM about the reasons why conventional media ignores such remarkable stories such as UFOs, etc. it makes me wonder why shows like Coast to Coast AM are allowed to exist. If governments really are trying to be so secretive, how come Coast to Coast is the most popular late-night talk show with hundreds of syndicate stations and millions of listeners every night?

Why have no crashed UFOs been kept or protected by private individuals?

It would seem logical to me that if a UFO were to crash in a developed country, it would most likely end up on someone's private property. With so much interest in UFOs either from movies or from apparently real stories floating around, it would seem logical that if a UFO landed in someone's property, they would attempt to document it or even hide it to prevent government officials from taking it.

One explanation might be that there are UFOs which are being kept by private individuals and that the reason it has not been disclosed is to prevent the evidence from being seized by the government. But in the age of the internet, it's surprising that pictures and other information would not have been leaked onto the net in an anonymous way.

If there are so many reported UFO crashes, how many UFOs are there that didn't crash?

The ratio of airplanes that crash vs. ones that don't crash is very high. For every crashed airplane, there are probably hundreds or thousands of planes which are flying normally. This begs the question: if we are only aware of UFO crashes, how many are on/near earth and are not crashing? It seems logical that if UFOs have a similar safety record to airplanes when flying in our atmosphere, that even though there are a small number of UFO crash reports compared with airplane crash reports, that there would still be quite a number of UFOs that were successfully flying all over the place.

This makes me wonder where all of these UFOs are. If they operate from earth, where is the base? Perhaps they never need to land and are just observing the earth from the air. Perhaps they enter and leave the atmosphere quickly to prevent being detected. Are they here all of the time, or do they come periodically on missions?

If ETs are intelligent enough to build sophisticated crafts, why can't they communicate with us?

The idea of UFOs is pretty interesting, but it makes me wonder why ETs haven't been in contact with us via radio, etc. From crash reports it appears that they are biological creatures, and it appears that their crafts are made from metallic substances. So I would argue that they probably also understand how radio works, in which case we should have been able to detect radio signals from ETs.

The great thing about radio is that it is difficult to prevent the signals from going where they can be intercepted by the general public. Although there is encryption which can make signals unintelligible, if there are any radio emissions from ET craft, it seems logical that amateur radio operators or UFO investigators should be able to receive these signals even simply as proof that they are being emitted. I have not heard of any reports of radio signals from UFOs being received.

If UFOs are from other planets, where did they come from and how long did it take them to get here?

As soon as I start to speculate as to where UFOs are from, I start to imagine the vast distances over which they probably had to travel to get here. You only have to look into the sky on a clear night to realize that what you are seeing is either some sort of illusion, or a very vast amount of space. It is a wonder how far a UFO would have to travel to get here, and how far away the nearest inhabitable planet is. This make me wonder how long it must take for a UFO to reach earth from wherever it comes from. Even if it were able to travel at light speed, this would still mean that a UFO would have to travel for a very long time to reach earth.

Does this mean that ETs have some sort of technology that allows them to travel faster than light? If so, what does this do to our current understanding of physics? It seems that this point alone is more important than any other aspect of UFO technology.

Why does it appear that governments (especially US) are trying to keep the existence of UFOs a secret?

Despite speculation as to their existence, it is completely unmistakable that the US government has worked very hard to deny the existence of UFOs and make up unbelievable stories to explain strange things that have occurred and been witnessed by normal people. This could be for a number of reasons:

Conclusion

This page is all about speculation and exploring the variety of potential causes of strange UFO phenomenon that countless people have reportedly witnessed. I hope to expand the page as I have more thoughts. If you have questions or comments or would like to discuss anything, please send me email.
