On Friday May 23, 2003 an incredible thing happened. Two of my best friends, Jonathan Fuerth and Linda Buchanan were married. I've been friends with both of them since high school, was partly responsible for them getting to know each other, and have the honour of being one of their close friends. They even asked me to be their best man which was a great honour.
There have been times when I wasn't sure I liked the fact that Jonathan and Linda were so good for each other. As they became closer it certainly changed the dynamics of my group of friends. But so did school, where everyone was living, and lots of other factors that are part of the ebb and flow of life. But when I think back to the past six or seven years that I have known Jonathan and Linda, I realize that my friendship with them has only gotten better.
Obviously I have thought about Jonathan and Linda's wedding more and more recently, as it happened just the other day. And the more I think about it, the more I am glad that they have taken this huge step in their lives. It really formalizes not only their love and commitment for each other, but also their commitment to their friends that love and care for both of them. I never want either one of them to disappear from my life.
Although I am about the same age as Jonathan and Linda, I look up to them in many ways. They have taught me so much about having a loving relationship, I know that I am a better person because of them. If more people could have relationships like they do, the world would be a much better place. They care about one another as much as they care about themselves. They laugh and smile and never put on an act. They trust and know that they love each other equally. They are open and tell each other how they feel and how much they care about each other. Most of all though, they have an incredible amount of fun with friends and with each other.
Having friends like Jonathan and Linda makes me very proud.
