When I was leaving my house the other day, this was staring at me. It said "Hey, you! Guy that walks by here everyday... look over here!" And so I did, and to my surprise there was a beautiful sight. One day there were just weeds and green leaves, lush but fairly uninteresting. The next day a beautiful piece of heaven had opened up and was looking right in my direction. It came from the ordinary stuff in my garden. Rain and sun and the soil helped, but the unique result of all of the ingredients was something much better than the parts. A unique thing that to me was more beautiful and lovely than any of the parts that made it so. And this effect happens in other things as well. Great ideas are not simply created and planned out in a vacuum. Something happens, some mundane or otherwise less important event ends up causing a shift in thinking, a spark, the beginnings of something great. When all the factors are right, and before anyone knows it, the idea blossoms out of almost nothing. It seems as though it had been there all along, and we wonder why nobody had thought of it before. Why now? Why here? Because. There is no explanation except because: because it was the right time. The right time to have the light bulb come on over our heads, the right time to meet an amazing friend, the right time to hear music that will change the way we feel. Afterwards we wonder why the right time was now. We think about how we felt before, and how much different life is now that we have this thought, this friend or this song. And life is full of little right times. And our moving forward and learning and living and loving depends on us not being blind to these little revelations. The door will open at various times and we just have to make sure we're not too busy to have a look inside. It might be something surprising and good. |
