cutting edge

We might not be inventing the cure for cancer or stopping global warming, but we're doing something totally new. With our saw and drill bits and chips and bytes, we carve out our ideas in aluminum, copper and C. The result are thoughts and discussions and dreams made real. We use what we know, and learn what we don't. The parts that we can't figure out we make up. Creativity flows, and we scramble learn how to implement it.

What humans create defines who they are: smart, stylish or cheap and crappy. Caring, simple, elegant and efficient. Apathetic, high strung, selfish and without morals. Each time we write a letter, make a phone call, hang out with friends and do our daily activities, we further propagate what matters to us. Designing something that others might use gives us the ability to have an influence on people. Just like the singer can spill his guts from the comfort of a song, a designer can impart ideas that he or she is proud of from the comfort of the laboratory. They can change the ways of thinking, show others what they've come up with and adjust the steering wheel on the direction of history just a little bit. And with a lot of luck and hard work, pretty soon everyone will know about it. It will become the standard.

And I dream that someday people will refer to something that I did and wonder how life would have carried on without it. Far from being a genius, but very much a practical dreamer, a hard worker, and most importantly: really really passionate, I know that this goal will come true.

With help and love and crossed fingers.
